As you may know, I joined the Accidentals again this spring for a chance to compete in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCAs). We competed in a sold-out Quarterfinal show in Athens in February and won first place. We then moved on to another sold-out Semifinal competition in Greensboro, NC last month. We got first place there as well! The Accidentals, in 36 years, have never made it past semifinals. But this year we've made it to the International Finals in New York City to compete against the 8 best collegiate a cappella groups in the world! Some of my closest a cappella friends and I got together in Washington, DC to record a song for Ben Folds' a cappella album competition. Formed in 1974, the UGA Accidentals is the oldest collegiate a cappella group at the University of Georgia. Using only our voices, we sang contemporary music, a few classics, and some choral pieces. The Accidentals typically consists of about 14 or so active, involved college guys who enjoy singing and have been performing for years--we have a good time on and off stage!
